Question & Answer

Outside of traditional bike brands like Trek, Specialized and Giant, the electric bike industry in the United States is based on the Consumer-Direct business model. Under this model brick and mortar dealers are replaced with online websites and 1-800 numbers to call.

ebike-ubike is a hybrid that focuses on a ‘Try-Before-You-Buy’ experience.  We are recognized dealers/ambassadors for the brands we carry but by design we do not have a traditional storefront.  We do have a shop in Farmington Hills where we take delivery of bikes for final assembly and repairs but do not operate like a traditional bike shop.

As kids, life was simple and so was your bicycle.  It represented freedom, exploration, fun and, at the end of the day, your bike was simple.  Today’s electric bikes are fantastic.  They allow us to revisit our youth, overcome physical limitations and have fun again, but they can be a bit complicated.  At ebike-ubike we want you to end up with a bike you feel good about. A bike that fits you correctly, is safe for you and one you will have fun with.  In our opinion the best way to achieve this goal is for you to ride a number of different bikes before making a final decision.  During the experience you will have questions, we will have answers and the complicated will become simple again.

We have a collection of bikes available for you to try out, so the first step is to schedule a demo ride.  After a preliminary conversation to better understand your thoughts, needs and intended use of the bike, we will come to you and go for a ride.  We’ll start by adjusting the bike to fit you, explain how things work and answer any questions you may have.  Next, we go for a ride and you get to feel how an electric bike works. We have yet to find any websites, blogs or YouTube videos that can equal the feeling of actually riding an electric bike, and it’s the best way to make sure you get a bike that properly fits you.  You can compare a bike with a hub drive motor against a bike with a mid-drive configuration.  You will learn and experience the benefits of pedal assist and a thumb throttle.  A frame with a step-thru design versus a step-over design, which is right for you?  The best way to find out is to go for a ride.  During this experience a majority of your questions will find answers, you’ll become more informed and gain a better understanding of what an electric bike is all about.

For the electric bike brands that do not have a dealer/ambassador network here is what you can expect.  You visit a website, select the bike you want, fill out your information in the checkout section, make payment and wait for an email confirmation.  If you have any questions during this process, you must call the company and talk with a representative over the phone.  When your delivery day arrives, the carrier truck drops a big box at the end of your driveway and drives off.  You’re responsible to drag the box into your garage, unpack your bike and perform the final assembly.  If you have questions or your bike arrives damaged you call customer service to deal with the issue over the phone or visit the website and search through the FAQ section.  This is the Consumer-Direct business model.

If you choose to work with ebike-ubike this is what you can expect.  After your demo ride, we will assist you in selecting the exact bike you want from the manufacturers website.  Next, we contact the company and place your order directly.  We will pass along all notices received from the company regarding order confirmation and delivery status.  Your bike will be delivered to our shop in Farmington Hills where we inspect the bike for any damages and complete final assembly.  If any damages are discovered, we contact the company to resolve the issue and report back to you.  You retain final vote on the situation and we will do our best to make sure you are satisfied.  Next, we schedule for delivery and drive your bike to you.  A final fitting is performed to ensure your comfort and safety.  You’ll receive a thorough explanation of the bikes controls and features and we’ll answer any questions you may have regarding your new toy.  Lastly, we email you a final invoice.  And its important to note that the price you pay ebike-ubike is the same price as listed on the manufacturer’s website.  There are no additional charges for our services.  Same bike, same price, better service.

Currently there are over 200 different brands of electric bikes sold in America.  Of those, only 3 are actually Made In America.  After doing our homework, we’ve become brand ambassadors for some very innovative companies that offer a wide variety of unique, high quality electric bikes.  So without further ado, please meet Electric Bike Company and Biktrix.

Electric Bike Company
(EBC) is based in Costa Mesa, California and is one of only three electric bike companies that can claim to be Made In America.  Here is how they work.  All design, engineering, R&D and product development is done in California.  Various components like frames, batteries, motors and brake systems are manufactured to their specs overseas and shipped to the Costa Mesa facility and it is here that the ‘magic’ begins.  We’re not exaggerating about ‘magic’ because EBC is hands down the best brand out there when it comes to customizing an electric bike straight from the factory.  Their frames are painted in-house, so in addition to the wide variety of stock colors available, they will custom paint your bike in any color or combination you want.  In addition, they offer gorgeous real wood fenders and chain guards that are made in-house that allow for you to design a truly unique and custom bike.  A majority of their models fall within the ‘cruiser style’ category which means a relaxed and comfortable seating position that allows for miles of comfortable riding.  Add in quality components, high level of attention to detail and great value, and you begin to understand why we love being affiliated with the Electric Bike Company.

Biktrix is based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and is a company that offers a wide selection of high quality and innovative electric bikes.  Similar to EBC, Biktrix does all of its design, engineering, R&D and product development in-house.  They also source the major components from overseas and do value added assembly in Saskatoon.  They offer a wide range of models including mountain bikes, commuters, cruisers, moped, cargo and folding bikes.  You can choose between hub motor or mid-drive configuration depending on the model.  Their batteries offer some of the longest range in the industry and all of their standard components are high quality and well designed.  There is also a very cool story about Biktrix.  During the pandemic the R&D team took advantage of the down time and created a truly unique bike.  The Juggernaut XD is the only electric bike available featuring a dual-chain drive system.  Featuring an Italian made mid-drive motor that is the most powerful in the industry, this bike has both a conventional 8-speed drivetrain on the right side plus a direct drive secondary chain on the left side. This bike is a lot of things but in our opinion it represents innovation and a desire to lead with constant product development and growth.  We’re not the only ones impressed by Biktrix’s innovation because in December 2022, the Canadian government awarded them with a $2.3 million grant to be used for future electric drivetrain development.  Can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
