USA Today lists one Michigan riverwalk among the top in the country

DETROIT - Michigan has one of the top riverwalks in the entire country, according to USA TODAY. The national publication has announced the Detroit Riverwalk is among the top American riverwalks nominated for Best Riverwalk by USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards 2021.
Nominees were selected by 10Best editors along with a panel of urban planning experts. The public is encouraged to vote online daily by clicking here for which riverwalk they like the best. Polls are open until noon ET on Monday, February 15 with the top 10 being revealed on Friday, February 26.
“We are excited that our Detroit Riverwalk is nominated as one of the best riverwalks in America by USA TODAY,” said Mark Wallace, President and CEO, Detroit Riverfront Conservancy. “Our vision has always been to transform Detroit’s international riverfront into an accessible world-class gathering place for all. It’s an honor that our city’s riverfront is being recognized nationally among the greatest riverwalks in the country.”
3.5 million people visit the Detroit Riverwalk each year. It has remained open every day during the coronavirus pandemic. Since March, use of the Detroit Riverwalk has increased 20 percent and Dequindre Cut usage has increased by 40 percent.

To date, the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy has invested more than $169 million in the revitalization of the Detroit Riverfront. The other USA TODAY top riverwalk nominees are:
